New Galena Trail System

On June 23, the construction of over 30 miles of brand-new, non-motorized single track and reconstruction of 17 miles of existing routes around Galena Lodge will begin. The trails, spiraling outwards like the arrondissements of Paris, make the lodge a centralized meeting place and starting point for days of exploring, and translate into fun for the entire family. In 2012, the IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association) gave our area its Epic Ride Center designation, and these trails do nothing but push os further into the territory of being a top biking destination for all levels of disciplines. A partnership between the Sawtooth National Recreation Area (SNRA), Blaine County Recreation District (BCRD), Bigwood Backcountry Trails Group, and numerous volunteer groups, it is designated as a three-year project. Director of Trails Facilities and  Operations for the BCRD Eric Rector expects to get ten or more miles ready this summer, starting with beginner routes and moving to the more advanced trails that take longer to build.

Americans for the Arts Leadership Roundtable to be Held in Sun Valley

The mission of Americans for the Arts is to serve, advance, and lead the network of organizations and individuals who cultivate, promote, sustain, and support the arts in America, connecting ideas and leaders from the arts, communities, and business to ensure that every American has access to the transformative power of the arts. Known best for helping establish the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), they consistently lead the effort to keep the arts funded at every level of government. Every summer, a leadership roundtable brings together artists, philanthropists, and corporate leaders to discuss the future of art as an engine for change; this year’s topic focuses on the marriage of art and technology and its place in the future of innovation. This year, our community is honored to host the event, with many local arts leaders taking a place at the table. Claudia McCain of the Ketchum Arts Commission stated of the event: “In the same way that ArtPlace recognized Ketchum as one of the top twelve small art towns in the United States, the Americans for the Arts visit further endorses the fact this area is an exceptional arts destination.”
